Laptop (again)

This is my ThinkPad T510. This thing is considerably older than the T480 that I used to have before... the Incident™. Anyways, this thing is my new main laptop. I've had it for about 2 weeks or so, and it's a pretty good laptop for its age. Like, yeah, there are limits to this thing's capabilities, mostly brought about by the fact that this is 2010 hardware (almost as old as me; I'm just 11 months older than the first batch of these laptops to be produced (February 2009 was my birth, January 2010 was this thing's release); yes, I'm making y'all feel old with the fact that the infants of 2009 are almost grown adults) being used in 2026 where 8GB is the absolute bare minimum RAM you need to get more than 2 Chrome tabs running at the same time, most major websites use enough JavaScript to kill 15 elephants, and LLMs have proliferated every corner of our lives like the fucking cancer it is (can't even buy RAM in this economy). However, this thing can run latest release of Ardour nearly flawlessly, performance shines when I'm using i3 + picom (vs. swayfx or niri), it can still compile shit in a good amount of time (in fact, compilation times are comparable to that of my T480 back when it wasn't dead), and I don't play many video games (at least on computers; I prefer using a dedicated console), so this thing only having Intel HD Graphics (and even its Nvidia variant being too old to run most modern video games) isn't a problem. That being said, there are a few things I need to address with this thing: the most urgent of these is the bottom case. The seller sent me this thing with some cracks near the left vent and some broken-off bit at the back vent. I have a new bottom case arriving later today, which hopefully didn’t get damaged in shipping. Also, this thing needs a hard drive caddy (its original caddy has been lost and the drive is currently being held in with cardboard) and a 9-cell battery (battery life is decent, but definitely could be better). I also want to upgrade the processor to an i7-620M (this is one of the last laptop generations to have socketed CPUs). I have a lot of work to do with this laptop, but for now, enjoy this lazy rehash of a video from over a year ago.
