World Premiere. hikikomori (solo) explores themes of social withdrawal, intimacy, and observation. The audience witnesses the performer within a 6-square-meter room, where they play music instead of performing, and exist instead of enacting. As the room becomes a microcosm that appears self-sufficient, it also longs for something outside itself, reflecting the delicate balance between solitude and the desire for connection. The composition was created from a 24-hour video recording with Tomek living in the hikikomori room that was created for this project. The recording was edited down to 24 minutes, where each minute of the final work corresponds to one hour in the original recording. Commissioned by and developed in close collaboration with Tomek Szczepaniak.
