Insulin resistance and fatty liver: why extra insulin fills your liver with fat

When your body stops responding well to insulin, it makes more of it to keep your blood sugar in check. That extra insulin also tells your body to store fat, and your liver is one of the first places it ends up. Over time that turns into non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which has now passed alcohol as the leading cause of cirrhosis. Cirrhosis was a top 10 cause of death in the United States as of 2024, and a lot of people walking around with a fatty liver have no idea. The good news is that a fatty liver can be reversed. Bringing insulin down is the big lever, and fiber helps too. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and flax seeds improve insulin sensitivity, cut down on the fat you absorb and keep your gut healthy. Has a doctor ever told you that you have a fatty liver? I'd love to hear what you did about it. Let's get healthy together. Science, not medical advice.
